Washtenaw United Way, in collaboration with Livingston County United Way and the United Way of Monroe County, Inc., is excited to sponsor an important county-wide information and referral system called the 2-1-1 Initiative.
After conducting a thorough feasibility study and assessment of existing sources within the county, Huron Valley Ambulance has agreed to host the Washtenaw County 2-1-1 Call Center.
HVA already operates a twenty-four hour, seven day a week call center and currently has all the technology needed to maintain such a service including:
- A
call management system that can route calls to the
next available operator and the capability of measuring
call volume, call abandonment
rate and average length of call. - The technologies needed to support access to the call center for individuals with special needs, e.g., TDD/TDY languages other than English.
- The
technology to conference call to community resources
while the
caller is on the telephone, in order to assure the effectiveness of the referral.
In an effort to strengthen the way people access help and engage in life, the following funders have generously supported this initial effort of implementing the use of a local 7-digit number (477-62-1-1). The goal was acheived in November 2006, the call center now operates using the 3 digit 2-1-1, and is now a state certified 211 call center.
