Every minute of every day people in Washtenaw, Livingston and Monroe Counties need essential services. Faced with a dramatic increase in the number of agencies and help lines, people don't know where to turn. In many cases, individuals end up without these necessary and readily available services because they do not know where to start.

By using the local access number the following types of health and human services can be accessed:

  • Basic Needs: Food bank, clothing closets, shelters, rent assistance and utility assistance.
  • Physical and Mental Health Resources: Health insurance programs, Medicaid and Medicare, maternal health, children's death Insurance Program, medical information lines, crisis information services, support groups, counseling, drug and alcohol intervention and rehabilitation.
  • Employment Support: Financial assistance, job training, transportation and educational programs.
  • Support for older Americans and persons with disabilities: Adult day Care, congregate needs, Meals on Wheels, respite care, home healthcare, and transportation and homemaker services.
  • Support for children, youth and families: Childcare, after school programs, Head Start, summer camps and recreational programs, mentoring, tutoring and protective service.
  • Emergency relief support services: Centralized information source for disaster relief services

2-1-1 serves approximately 165 million Americans - over 55% of the US population; 190 active 2-1-1 systems covering all or part of 38 states (including 13 states with 100% coverage) plus Washington DC and Puerto Rico
